I know first hand how challenging it can be to start and stick to a fitness routine. Back in 2016, I struggled with knee pain and a lack of flexibility, but yoga completely changed my life. Now, I help people here in Ringwood, UK, build fitness routines they love — and stick to them.
If you’re ready to make 2025 the year you commit to your health and fitness, I’ve got you covered. Here are my 8 best tips to get started with a routine you’ll actually enjoy and stick with long-term.
1. Set Simple, Realistic Goals
Don’t overcomplicate it. Instead of saying, “I’ll work out every day,” start with something like, “I’ll do 2–3 sessions a week.” Small, realistic goals are easier to stick to and build on. When I started my yoga journey, my goal was just to improve my flexibility—and it grew from there.
2. Find Workouts You Look Forward To
If your workouts feel like a chore, it’s hard to stay consistent. Choose something you genuinely enjoy! Whether it’s yoga, Pilates, or something else entirely, loving your workout makes all the difference. At Zone Fitness here in Ringwood, we’ve created programs like Zone Fitness FLOW™ (a mix of yoga and fitness) and Zone Fitness PILATES™ (a modern Pilates class) that are fun, upbeat, and effective. I also offer 1:1 Personal Training as well as group training seeeions. You can even work with me online so with my Online Coaching programme.
3. Work Fitness Into Your Routine
Life gets busy—trust me, I get it! But if you treat your workout like an appointment you can’t miss, it’s much easier to stick to. Morning, lunchtime, or evening—it doesn’t matter when, as long as it fits your lifestyle. If you’re in Ringwood, our flexible class times make it easy to find something that works for you. Or make use of my Personal Training service and we can reserve you a weekly slot that you can stick to. Personal Training is a really effective way to stay accountable for your workout as your trainer will motivate and inspire you week after week.
4. Invest in the Right Gear
Having comfortable, supportive workout clothes and equipment can boost your confidence and keep you motivated. For yoga and Pilates, a good mat and breathable clothing are must-haves. It doesn’t need to cost a fortune—just make sure you’re comfortable and ready to move.
5. Surround Yourself with Support
Whether it’s a workout buddy, a Personal Trainer, or a fitness class, having support makes everything easier. Joining a group like the Zone Fitness community in Ringwood is a great way to stay motivated and meet people who are on the same journey as you.
6. Switch Things Up
Let’s face it—doing the same workout over and over can get boring. Mixing in yoga, Pilates, strength training, and cardio will keep things exciting and challenge your body in new ways. That’s why our programs like Zone Fitness FLOW™ and Zone Fitness PILATES™ are designed to offer variety while helping you build strength, flexibility, and endurance.
7. Celebrate Your Wins (No Matter How Small!)
Every step forward is worth celebrating. Did you show up for your workout today? Master a pose you’ve been working on? Stay consistent for a month? Celebrate it! Acknowledging your progress helps you stay motivated for the long haul.
8. Remember Your Why
Why do you want to get fit? Maybe it’s to feel stronger, reduce stress, or boost your energy levels. Write it down and keep it somewhere visible. Your “why” will keep you going, even when motivation fades. For me, yoga was my way to avoid surgery and manage pain—and it became so much more.
